South Africa U-20 women's national team reported to camp on Friday, September 1 to begin preparations for the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup qualifiers against Namibia.
The Basetsana will be aiming to qualify for the ninth edition of the biennial tournament, which will be held in France from September 7 to 26, 2018.
The South Africa ladies are set to face the Young Warriors of Namibia in a two-legged qualifier, with the first leg billed for September 17 at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto and return leg in Windhoek on September 30 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Head coach of the team Maud Khumalo has called up a provisional squad of 43 players, which will be trimmed down to 24 on Sunday.
"We started our preparations this afternoon which went quite well. We also had a tactical session to check on the players' fitness and technical levels. We hoping to identify a strong and competitive squad to represent the nation," said Khumalo on Safa.net
The final squad will travel to Swaziland on Thursday for a friendly game against the neighbouring Africa country before confronting the Namibia ladies in the world cup qualifiers.
South Africa have never competed at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, but will be hoping to make history by first overcoming their Namibia opponents in the African qualifiers.
