Organisers of Mubadala World Tennis Championship have confirmed that Serena Williams will play at the tournament which begins this weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Williams who has not played since winning a record 23 grand slam titles at the Australian Open in January, will face Jelena Ostapenko in an exhibition match December 30.

The 36 years old who gave birth to her daughter, Alexis Olympia Jr in September and got married to Alexis Ohanian in November 2017, is ready to make her comeback.

"I am delighted to be returning to the court in Abu Dhabi for the first time since the birth of my daughter in September," Williams said in a statement.

"The Mubadala World Tennis Championship has long marked the beginning of the men's global tennis season and I am excited and honoured to be making my comeback as part of the first women to participate in the event.

"I look forward to seeing the fans in Abu Dhabi at the 10th edition of the championship very soon."

The American currently ranked number 22nd in the world, she would not need a wildcard for the event.
