It was an overall satisfaction last Sunday, coupled with shouts of joy as home boy Mathias Sorgho was crowned winner of the 31st edition of the Burkina Faso International Cycling Tour commonly known as Tour du Faso.

The 31-year-old university of Ouagadougou  graduate came out first on the general classification despite Timmy De Boes of Belgium winning the 10th and final stage of the 127.2 km race from Zorgho to Ougadougou, his 3rd of  the competition.

Sorgho who first appeared at the Tour du faso in 2015, becomes the 14th Burkinabé to retain the Yellow Jersey since 1987 when the competition first started.

He brings back home about 3,500 US dollars as winner of the competition associated and 660 US dollars as stage winning prize.

The race which started on October 25, saw Mathias Sorgho grab the yellow jersey in the fourth stage and never let go of it.

The Tour du Faso is one of the most important cycling competition in Africa alongside the Tropicale Amissa Bongo in Gabon and the Moroccan International cycling Tour.

The next event is Guinea International Cycling Tour from November 21 to 25.
