Super Falcons coach Thomas Dennerby says his team will have no problem playing in this month four-nation invitational tournament in China without Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie.
Oshoala and Oparanozie were conspicuously missing when the Falcons' squad list for the tourney was made public and their omission have attracted different views from soccer loving Nigerians.
It was reported in some section of the media that China-based Oshoala had visa issues, while Oparanozie has struggled to gain fitness since last year Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana.
But Dennerby who led the team to a ninth AWCON triumph, is optimistic that the duo's absence will have no effect on the team, as they are well prepared for the task ahead of them in China.
"We will have loved to have both of them in the team, but they will not be coming to China,” the 55-year-old Swede began on
Goal.
"Oshoala did not travel with us because of administrative and technical things [reasons]. No worries at all. We will try to make a good tournament.
"Oparanozie needs to get hundred percent fit and we have allowed her so that she can play without getting injured again."
Strikers Alice Ogebe and Ini Umotong has been brought in as their replacements as the reigning African champions aim to begin their FIFA Women's World Cup preparations positively.
Hopefully, the duo alongside Barcelona FA defender Ngozi Ebere will return to the national team fold when Super Falcons take part in next month's Cyprus Women's Cup.
The Nigerian delegation yesterday landed at Meihzou Meixian Changgangji International Airport ahead of their opening fixture against hosts Steel Roses of China on Thursday, January 17.
