Harry Kane has set a new Premier League record after scoring three goals in Tottenham Hotspur's 5-2 defeat of Southampton.

Kane's first strike against the Saints was his 37th in the English topflight league which saw him surpass the record set by Alan Shearer in 1995 when he won the title with Blackburn Rovers.

He added two more goals to take his tally in 2017 to 39, thereby becoming the first player to score six league hat-trick in a single calendar year.

And as a result, the 24-year-old will finish the year as the highest goalscorer in Europe ahead of Argentina star Lionel Messi, having netted 56 times for club and country.

The Three Lions whizkid who now leads the league scoring chart with 18 goals thanks to back-to-back hat-tricks, has struck six times in five UEFA Champions League games this term.

Kane is also the first English player to end a calendar year as the top scorer in the Premier League since Wayne Rooney in 2009.
