There are fears that Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru could be out of the rest of season with a medial ligament injury which he sustained last Friday.

Onyekuru torn his medial bond while in action for Anderlecht against his former club KAS Eupen in the Belgian topflight league.

Anderlecht have confirmed that the 20-year-old Nigeria international who was stretched out on the 78th minute will soon be operated on.

"The medical staff of RSCA reports after extensive medical research that Henry Onyekuru has torn his medial bond. Onyekuru will soon be operated on," a statement on the club's website read.

"The medical staff is in close contact with his mother club Everton to determine where the Nigerian will go under."

And as such, he faces surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation which will see the player loaned from Everton miss the rest of the current football season.

Sadly, his dreams of representing the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup in Russia could come to an end after making his debut in a warm-up match against Togo in June 2017.
