The number of African female footballers plying their trade in Spain has increased by one after Sporting Club Huelva announced the signing of Meryem Hajri.

Hajri, a Morocco international becomes the team's first signee of the year for the Cajasol Sporting Foundation, following her move from Wydad Athletic of Casablanca.

The 24 years old defensive midfielder joins the Spanish outfit for an undisclosed fee and the duration of her signed contract was not made public.

The Moroccan will be unveiled as a Sporting Huelva player in the coming days and she is expected to join her new teammates on Saturday.

She could be available for selection, her debut game, when the team takes on Espanyol in a Primera División Femenina clash on Sunday.

Hajri joins her fellow Africans, Ngo Mbeleck from Cameroon and Rutendo Makore of Zimbabwe at Sporting Huelva who are ninth on the league table.

Also in the league are Nigerian forward Francisca Ordega, Ivorian duo of Ida Guehai and Ange Koko, Gabrielle Ngaska and Augustine Ejangue from Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea's Jade Boho.
