Desiree Ellis has been named head coach of South Africa's Banyana Banyana after handling the team on an interim basis for 18 months.
The announcement of her appointment was made by South Africa Football Association president Danny Jordaan during a press conference at SAFA House in Johannesburg on Thursday morning.
"We are glad to announce the appointment of Desiree (Ellis) as Banyana Banyana coach; she fully deserves the appointment as she has come through all the ranks of our national teams," said Jordaan.
"Desiree has three tasks to achieve; qualify for AFCON 2018 in Ghana, qualify for FIFA World Cup and the Olympics. I am confident Banyana Banyana will be up to the task."
The 54 years old first assignment as coach of the senior women's football side, will be to guide them at the 2018 Cyprus Cup which serves off on February 26.
South Africa are scheduled to depart for the hosts nation tomorrow, Friday, February 23rd and they have been drawn with Slovakia, Korea DPR and Hungary in Group C of the international tournament.
