Newly signed players, Joy Bokiri of Nigeria and Meryem Hajri from Morocco began life in the Spanish women's topflight league with a defeat.

Both players recently joined Sporting de Huelva from Greek side Elpides Karditsas and Wydad Athletic Club of Casablanca respectively, in a bid to strengthen the squad.

They were introduced in the second half of the Primera División Femenina clash against Espanyol on Sunday at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque Stadium.

Sporting de Huelva who also have Cameroonian Ngo Mbeleck and Zimbabwe's Rutendo Makore on their books, suffered a slim 1-0 loss to their hosts.

Cristina Baudet netted the solitary goal on the 68th minute to separate both sides after a barren first half which produced fewer goalscoring opportunities.

The defeat leaves Sporting de Huelva on the 10th position with 21 points, after 18 league matches this season.

Still in Spain, Namibian star Zenatha Coleman failed to inspire Zaragoza CFF pass Granadilla Tenerife at the Estadio La Palmera stadium.

Coleman who scored on her debut game last week, played the entire duration but could not find the net as Zaragoza lost 2-0  at full time.

Defender Pisco gave Tenerife the lead after 26 minutes before striker María José wrapped up the victory from the penalty spot late in the second half.

Zaragoza who are languishing at the bottom of the league table with six points, will entertain Real Betis in their next game billed for Sunday, February 11.
