The senior women's football team of Zimbabwe have been dealt with a major blow ahead of their forthcoming 2018 Africa Women's Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Zimbabwe are scheduled to play Namibia in the first leg, first round of the AWCON qualifiers on April 4, with star striker Rutendo Makore set to miss out of the contest with an ankle injury.

The Sporting Huelva of Spain player is facing a late fitness test to see if she could be fit in time for the game on Wednesday and the return leg on April 8 at the Rufaro Stadium.

“Rutendo is a vital member of the suqad, but if she cannot be part of the team, I am confident other players are equally capable of doing the job,” coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda said on Zimbabwe Football Association official website.

Sibanda is optimistic of a favourable result and has named a squad of 18 players who will defend the colours of the country against their Namibia opponents.

Midfielders Emmaculate Msipa, Mavis Chirandu and Felistas Muzongondi returns to the national fold, having missed the 2017 COSAFA Women's Championship finals.

Also on the named list is newly invitee Edline Mutumbami, who has been with the team since they began camping on March 19.

The overall winners will progress to the second and final stage of the qualification campaign to face either Zambia or Tanzania for a place in continental tournament in Ghana later this year.
