The 2017-18 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season commenced few days ago with Sunshine Queens and Bayelsa Queens claiming emphatic wins.

Sunshine Queens put in a scintillating performance to blow Abia Angels away, defeating their visitors 4-1 at the Akure Township Stadium.

Patience Agbokhadi, Precious Vincent, Lola Philip and Tina Onyatheleme hit the net for Sunshine, while Favour Emmanuel bagged the consolatory goal for Abia Angels.

Captain and midfielder Joy Jerry scored a double on the 39th and 45th minutes respectively to hand Bayelsa Queens a 2-0 victory over their hosts Confluence Queens in Lokoja.

At the Ilorin Township Stadium, Joy Okonkwo netted a late goal as Sure Babes from Kwara state pipped Heartland Queens 1-0 in a clash of newcomers.

Yetunde Fajobi's late equaliser cancelled out Pato Moses opener as Pelican Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Osun Babes at the U.J Esuene Stadium.

Reigning champions Nasarawa Amazons began their title defence with a draw after playing a 0-0 scoreline with Lagos-based outfit Robo Queens.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Oluehi Tochukwu saved a penalty for Rivers Angels in their goalless draw with Delta Queens at the Kwale Township Stadium.

Newly promoted Jokodolu Babes forced Adamawa Queens to barren draw, while the encounter between Edo Queens and Ibom Angels also failed to produce goals.
