Leandra Smeda have become the latest South African female footballer to move abroad after penning a contract with Lithuanian side FK Gintra-Universitetas.
Smeda, recently signed a representation agreement with LTA Agency, joins the Lithuanian champions from local side University of Western Cape (UWC).
The 28-year-old who becomes the first South African to be part of the list of women's players to be represented by the agency, helped UWC to finish second in the Sasol Women's League last term.
She has appeared 74 times for South Africa, having featured in two summer Olympic Games, three Africa Women Cup of Nations finals and the Cyprus Women Cup event; scoring 19 goals in the process.
She played an integral role in helping her country to win the 2017 COSAFA Women Championship, after they defeated hosts Zimbabwe 2-1 in the final match.
The 2014 Sasol League Sports Women of the Year recipient, scored twice; home and away as South Africa beat Lesotho 7-0 on aggregate to qualify for this year's AWCON in Ghana.
She played for Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), earlier in her career where she also claimed the league sports women of the year award in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
At Gintra-Universitetas, she will be in action in the UEFA Women Champions League when her new team takes on Bulgaria’s NSA Sofia, Finnish club FC Honka and Skala from the Faroe Islands in Group 9 of the qualifying round in August.
