Interior Women have been crowned champions of the 2017-18 Gambia Football Federation Women's Cup after defeating rivals Red Scorpions on penalties.

Interior beat Red Scorpions 4-3 on shootout to clinch their third successive cup title after the two sides failed to find the breakthrough on regular time.

The encounter which took place at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium, had few scoring opportunities as both teams played with caution.

Goalkeeper Mariama Ceesay made a fine save for Red Scorpions after keeping out Jabou Jobarteh's well taken free kick few minutes into the second half

In the latter stages of the game, Pullo Bah missed a clear-cut chance for Red Scorpions before Gambian women's national team skipper Penda Bah saw her goal ruled offside.

Red Scorpions were, however, reduced to 10-man following the dismissal of Awa Tamba who was sent off after receiving her matching orders for a tackle on Catherine Jatta.

The match eventually finished 0-0 at 90 minutes and went straight into penalties where Interior Women held their nerves to seeing off Red Scorpions 4-3.

As winners, Interior Women FC got a cash prize of D100,000 which is equivalent to two thousand, one hundred and fifteen U.S dollars, while losers Red Scorpions went home with D75,000, amounting to one thousand, five hundred and eighty-six U.S dollars.

Red Scorpions who had clinched the domestic league title as their only silverware of the season, saw their striker Adama Tamba receive D8,000 for winning the best player award.
