The U20 women's national football team of Ghana have kicked start their preparations towards next month's FIFA U20 Women World Cup in France.

The Black Princesses as they are nicknamed, held their training session on Monday at the Ghanaman Centre for Soccer Excellence at Prampram.

The players were initially sent home from camp on June 10 after the government received a legal order to stop all football related activities in the country following an undercover discovery of bribery and corruption practices in the Ghana Football Association.

But things have changed since they resumed camping on the directives by the two-man FIFA liaison team headed by Dr. Kofi Amoah, jointly formed by the government of Ghana and the world football governing body during a meeting in Zurich two weeks ago.

This comes as a great sign of relief for coach Yusif Basigi who has seen his work on team disrupted by the impasse between government and the GFA over the exposure of widespread corruption by investigative journalist, Anas Amereyaw Anas.

"The few weeks of inactivity have affected the fitness of most of the players as they did not much seriousness to the training schedule I gave them when we broke camp," Basigi told Graphic Sports

"As a result, we have to step up our training to build our stamina and endurance before turning attention to the other technical aspect."

He further explained the need for the Princesses to hold camp in Europe and play international friendlies, which will prepare them physically and mentally for the world cup finals.

"I have given details of a revised training schedule to the liaison team and I hope it will get the needed approval. My recommendation is that, since we have, realistically, two weeks to train, we have to immediately move out of Ghana to a training base in Europe and arrange some matches that would test our endurance and fitness level, as well as get the girls into a competition mode.

"Comparatively, we are far behind in our training schedule but we also understand and appreciate the prevailing circumstances, so we are going that extra mile to be ready for the competition."

Ghana, one of Africa's flag-bearer at World Cup will take on hosts France in their opening match in Group A before subsequent games against the Netherlands and New Zealand.

Notably missing on the list of the 25 players who reported to camp on Monday was joint-top scorer during the African qualifiers, Princella Adubea.

The Amper Darkoa Ladies goal-poacher suffered an injury while in camp with the team early this year and was conspicuously missing from the provisional list announced by Basigi in May.
