Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo's sensational overhead kick against Juventus has won the UEFA Goal of the Season accolade.

The former Real Madrid man who now suits out for the Italian giants, was announced winner of the award with a remarkable 197,496 votes.

"Congratulations @cristiano, Goal of the Season winner," a tweet on UEFA Champions League verified Twitter account read.

Dimitri Payet of Olympique Marseille came second with 35,558 votes for his dribble and shot in his team's 5-2 win over RB Leipzig in Europa League quarterfinals.

While Eva Navarro got 23,315 votes to finish third with her wonder strike for Spain in the U17 European Women's Championship final against Germany.

Ronaldo, 33, has since taken to his official Twitter handle to thank everyone after being named the award's winner.


"Thanks to everyone who voted for me. Will never forget that moment, specially the reaction of the fans in the stade. #UEFA Goal of the Season #SpecialMoment," Ronaldo tweeted.

He recently stated that the standing ovation he received from the opposing fans for his award-winning strike paved the way for his summer move to Turin.
