A total annihilation of debutants Hope of Glory FC by defending champions Akwa United took centre stage in Port Harcourt in one of the Aiteo Cup round of 64 matches.
Akwa United started like a house on fire from the 4th minute as Ubong Essien cross from the right flank almost went in to the dismay of the Hope of Glory goal keeper.
In the 25th minute, Akwa United's Victor Mbaoma scored from a powerful header with Michael Ibe providing the assist.
Aniekeme Aniekan doubled their advantage as the Promise Keepers took a two-goal lead all thanks to the defensive error by the defenders of the opposing side.
With the kick off of the second half, Hope of Glory were blown away as they could not match their opponents strength for strength, which saw them concede further goals.
Aniekan and Mbaoma benefitted from goalkeeping errors by Osondu Vincent to net their braces, thus giving Akwa United a comfortable 4-0 lead.
In the 69th minute, Aniekan completed his hat trick in the one-sided affair as the fans at Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt were in full applaud for the marksman.
Substitute Ezekiel Bassey got into the action and scored twice in the closing minutes of the encounter to hand Akwa United a 7-0 victory over their hapless opponents.
The win sees the defending champions qualifies to the round of 32 of the country's oldest football competition as clear favourites.
