Being in Douala to preside over the inaugural stage of the 2018 Chantal Biya International Cycling Tour, Cameroon's Sports Minister, Bidoung Mkpatt seized the occasion to pursue his nationwide visit of hosting sites for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
This Tuesday tour brought him alongside the Governor of the Littoral region of the country, to the inspection of three of the four centers of attraction in the Economic Capital.
First to the Japoma Sports Complex, which comprises of a 50,000 seated and covered stadium with two training pitches, basketball, handball and volleyball courts, a swimming pool and many other attractions, with work at 75% completion, to be completed by December of this year.
Yeningun Construction, the turkish company on duty there explained that the roof is at 50% completion and all the steel structure of the frame will be laid this October.
There are still some work to be done in the spectator stands. Plumbing, electricity and mechanical piping of the stadium are at 70%. The turf of the two annex training pitches is ready for use.
Moving over to the Bepanda Omnisports mostly known as the Reunification stadium, the delegation saw that the progress of the work is not at full speed.
The training stadium is at 40% of its full completion, that is why a team of 300 night workers were engaged as substitution to the 1000 going on duty by daylight.
Finally at the Mbappe Leppe stadium in Akwa, where the turf is also ready, pending the arrival of some materials. The training stadium will be ready by December 15.
Concerning the Mojas stadium in Bonamoussadi, the representatives of the company engaged on this site reasured the Minister that the work there is at 90%.
The pitch is almost ready for play, the administrative units and the changing rooms are almost done.
The Minister then departed Douala for Yaounde where he will be moving to the West region of Cameroon to visit the already completed Kouékong Omnisports Stadium.
Bidoung Mkpatt is also expected to go to the Mbouda Arena and the Municipal Stadiums of Bamedzi and Bagangté training venues
The third visit of the CAF inspection team is scheduled for the beginning of November.
