Manchester United Women made a bold statement in their return to competitive football with a resounding 12-0 hammering of Aston Villa in the FA Women's Championship.
Playing their first season since being reformed after they were disbanded in 2005, United coached by ex-England player Casey Stoney, outplayed Villa from start to finish.
The team had six different scorers whose goals came in the first 68 minutes of the contest at Trevor Brown Memorial Ground where a large number of fans were in attendance.
Jess Sigsworth was the standout performer, scoring five times to lead the way for United, while Lauren James and Kirsty Hanson added braces in the demolition.
Katie Zalem, Mollie Green and Ella Toone also got on the scorers-sheet as Villa were no match to their visitor's superiority at the end of the day.
Stoney's side have played two other matches this term, in the FA Continental Tryes League Cup, where they beat Liverpool before losing to Reading.

In the Women's Super League, defending champions Chelsea fired blank all through in their scoreless draw with Manchester City.
Whereas Arsenal accounted for a 5-0 defeat of Liverpool, with Dutch international striker Vivianne Miedema netting the first hat-trick of the campaign.
