Super Falcons midfielder Ngozi Okobi has appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation to arrange top-class friendlies for the team ahead of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France.

Nigeria are amongst the 24 countries scheduled to play at the World Cup holding from June to July after winning the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana.

Before heading to France, the Falcons will feature in the four-nation invitational tournament in China between January 17-21 and the annual Cyprus Women's Cup billed for February 25 to March 7.

But Okobi who starred when the Nigerian team emerged victorious at the AWCON, has urged the NFF to organize more friendly matches for coach Thomas Dennerby's side.

"The tournament in China and Cyprus is not enough, because these games are in January and February," Okobi is quoted saying on BBC Sport.

"What then happens after February until June? We need more quality international friendlies to put us in shape.

"The World Cup is not a place for us to be trying things out, so we need top matches to prepare us adequately."

The Eskilstuna United player, however, admits that other African nations has closed the gap on Nigeria and in order to avoid a disappointing women's world cup outing, the country needs to "triple things up" in terms of her preparations.

"For the World Cup we need to triple things up because we can't wake up one morning without top matches and then start travelling to France."

"It's very important for the federation to arrange something big for us. We've witnessed how the gap is gradually closing on the continent between us and others," she added.

Making her eighth appearance at the women's world cup finals, Nigeria will face Norway in her opening fixture on June 8 in Reims, trade tackles with South Korea on June 12 in Grenoble, before taking on hosts France on June 17 in Rennes.
