Nigeria men's national Basketball team, D'Tigers have arrived in Tunisia ahead of the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 which kicks off on September 8th and runs through till to the 16th.
Nigeria who are the defending African champions have been drawn in Group A alongside DR Congo, Mali and Côte d'Ivoire of the championship co-hosted by Tunisia and Senegal.
The team is comprised of four local players; they include Abdul Yahaya, Kelechi Anuna, Azouma Dike and Okaro Akamune as Nigeria eye a second consecutive title after winning it two years ago.
Others are captain Ike Diogu, Daniel Ochefu, Anthony Odunsi, Ike Ireogbu, Akin Akingbala, Ike Nwamu, Deji Akindele and Bryant Mbamalu who make up the foreign players setup of coach Alex Nwora's team.
Nwora told
FIBA.com that, "We may not have the same crop of players everyone knew but we are in Tunisia to give our best. Some of the players that were at the FIBA AfroBasket in 2015 have new contracts and some are injured but this competition must go on.
"As a professional coach, I am here to do my job of ensuring that Nigeria gives a good account of herself in this championship.
He would be assisted by Adewunmi Aderemi and Abdulrahman Mohammed as they aim to keep D'Tigers on top of their game and a team to be reckoned with.
Nigeria will begin their title defence against Côte d'Ivoire on Friday, September 8 before going up against Mali the next day before taking on DR Congo on Sunday.
