Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City might be the match venue for the forthcoming 2018 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Tanzania.
This is following the declaration by the Edo state government of their intentions to host both teams as the race for the biennial women's soccer fiesta in France next year draws nearer.
The stadium is also the venue for the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super Four slated for the 9th to 14th of October, 2017.
According to Edo Football Association chairman, Frank Ilaboya, an official bid has been submitted in regards to playing host to the Nigerians and their opponents from east Africa on September 16.
Ilaboya said the move was part of the efforts made by governor Godwin Obaseki to develop sports in the state and also support the growth of women's football in the country.
"Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has already sent words across to the NFF to assure that the state government is ready to rejuvenate sports in the state and women’s football is one of the avenues," he said on Goal.com
"Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City is already wearing a new look as the FA and indeed Governor Obaseki is expecting the national U20 women in the city by Monday.
“All logistics are in place and I can assure you that working with the Nigeria Women’s Football League, the NFF and the governor has already declared an “Operation Crush Tanzania in Benin City”.
