Former Zimbabwean captain Benjani Mwaruwari has backed the Super Eagles of Nigeria for success at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Mwaruwari said Nigeria who have been drawn with Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in Group D, will make it pass the preliminary round of the tournament.

The 39-year-old stated that coach Gernot Rohr's side which comprises of young players have what it takes to beat any team at the world cup finals.

“I believe the Super Eagles have what it takes to qualify from their group,” the former Portsmouth and Manchester City striker told Completesportsnigeria.com

“Argentina and Croatia are very strong with top quality players. Argentina with Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero will be difficult to beat, while Croatia have Luca Modric and other quality players.

“But if you look at the Super Eagles, they have a lot of young and quality players too which will make them tough opponents for any team in Russia.

He, however, asked the players to avoid fighting with the Nigeria Football Federation over match bonuses, a situation which have hampered the country's progression in previous competitions.

The Super Eagles' participation at the 1994 and 1998 World Cups were marred with in-house issues and the same incident rose its ugly head in Brazil 2014 finals.

“I see them doing well in Russia but they have to do things with discipline. They must avoid unnecessary squabbles over money which has affected their performance in previous competitions.

“It is an African thing and I hope the football federation in Nigeria and other African countries will learn from their past mistakes.”

Nigeria will play their opening game against Croatia on June 16, confronts Iceland six days later before battling with Argentina in the final group match.
