The Federal Government of Ghana has approved the sum of $8m for the hosting of the 2018 Africa Women's Cup of Nations.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) organized continental championship will see Ghana play host to seven other nations between November 17 to December 1.
The country's Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah stated that the money approved will also be used for project works as Ghana are set to stage a world class tournament.
The works include the renovation of the Accra Sports Stadium, Robert Mensah Stadium, training pitches at El-Wak and the upgrading of Achimota School training pitch, the Nduom Stadium in Elmina as well as the completion of the University of Ghana Stadium.
"Government has approved an amount of $8 million for the hosting of the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament. That will be used for the renovation of the stadia and other training facilities to be used for the tournament," said Asiamah.
He stated that the Local Organising Committee (LOC) chaired by Freda Akosua Prempeh will launch the tournament and unveil the official mascot at the Alisa Hotel on March 23rd.
He also congratulated the U17 female team, the Black Maidens and U20 female team, the Black Princesses for qualifying for this year's FIFA women's world cup finals in Uruguay and France respectively.
