Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt yesterday made history after they won the first edition of the Nigeria Women Football League Champions Shield title.

In a pulsating encounter which ended in a 1-1 draw on regulation time at the Agege Stadium in Lagos, Rivers Angels edged out Nasarawa Amazons 4-3 following a penalty shoot out.

Alice Ogebe found the net for the Port Harcourt landladies on the 42nd minute, a lead coach Edwin Okon led team held onto at half time.

At the restart of the game, Nasarawa Amazons who showed good signs in the opening minutes, began to make dangerous moves in the area box of their opponents in search for an equaliser.

The reward for their persistent paid off on the 58th minute when Adejoke Ejalonibi drew level, scoring from substitute Ugochi Emenayo's cross.

Both sides pushed further for the winning goal but the score remained 1-1 at the end of the 90 minutes, which took the match straight into penalty shoot-out.

Uju Joseph converted the last spot kick to earn Rivers Angels a 4-3 victory, after dependable goalkeeper Oluehi Tochukwu had saved two efforts from Nasarawa Amazons' players.
