Germany Football Federation (DFB) have confirmed the appointment of Martina Voss-Tecklenburg as the new head coach of their women's national team.
Voss-Tecklenburg who is currently the manager of Switzerland women's team, will take over Germany after the completion of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifiers.
The 50-year-old former German international has signed a contract with DFB which runs through until the end of the 2021 European Championship.
During her playing days, Martina Voss-Tecklenburg represented her country 125 times and helped them to win four European titles.
She began her coaching career in 2008 at FCR 01 Duisburg, where she won the DFB-Pokal twice and UEFA Cup before moving to FF USV Jena.
She aiming to qualify the Swiss national team for a second successive women's World Cup finals having led them to their first three years ago in Canada after she took the job in 2012.
Voss-Tecklenburg's assistant will be another former international and European champion Britta Carlson who has been on the coaching team of German champions VfL Wolfsburg.
Until then, Horst Hrubesch who took charge of the Germans following the dismissal of Steffi Jones, will stay on as the caretaker coach of the two-time world champions.
Germany are still firmly in the race to secure a spot at next year's World Cup in France despite a shock early home loss to Iceland.
The Germans leads Group 5 of the European qualifying program with two points ahead of the Icelanders who have a game in hand.
