Defending champions Nasarawa Amazons and Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt yesterday claimed their first win of the 2017-18 Nigeria Women Football League season.

In a superb fashion, Nasarawa Amazons edged out Pelican Stars 3-0 to get their campaign back on track following a goalless draw with Robo Queens in their opener last week.

Falconets star Anam Imo netted a late goal to consolidate the Lafia landladies' lead after Aisha Bello had struck twice earlier in the game.

At the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, newcomers Sure Babes of Ilorin were handed their first defeat of the term, going down 3-1 to hosts Rivers Angels.

Evelyn Nwabuoku converted from the penalty spot to extend coach Edwin Okon tutored-side advantage to 2-0 after Ikechukwu Vivian had broke the deadlock on the 17th minutes.

After resumption, Nnaji Bright levelled the scoreline for Sure Babes with a beautiful chip-over goal but new signee Mary Saiki hit the net on the 62nd minute to seal the maximum points for the homers.

Rave of the moment, captain Joy Jerry scored a last-gasp goal to earn Bayelsa Queens a slim 2-1 win over a dodged Edo Queens side.

It was Jerry's third goal of the term and it came at the right time for the Restoration Ladies who went in front through Osarenoma Igbinovia before Peach Efih equaliser.

Sunshine Queen's made it two wins from two matches with a 3-0 hammering of newly promoted Jokodolu Babes of Ogbomosho.

Tina Oyatheleme, Lola Philips and Patience Agbokhade struck in the first half to end Jokodolu's chances of coming back into the game.

Esther Onyenezedie became the hero and a super-sub after she scored the match winner for Lagos-based outfit Robo Queens in their 1-0 defeat of Adamawa Queens.

The same 1-0 scoreline was recorded in the clash between Abia Angels and Osun Babes, where Mary Opara curled home a sublime free kick to earn the Aba landladies the victory.

While the contest between Heartland Queens versus Confluence Queens which took place at the Dan Ayiam Stadium failed to produce goals, leaving the game to end at barren draw.
