Nigeria today booked their place in the final round of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign after they breeze past Guinea Bissau.

The Flying Eagles grabbed a narrow 1-0 victory over their visitors at the U.J Esuene Stadium in Calabar to progress to the next stage 3-2 on aggregate.

Striker Adamu Alhassan netted the solitary goal from a resulting penalty on the 58 minute which made the difference between the two sides.

The Eagles who played a 2-2 draw with their Guinea Bissau counterparts in the first leg a week ago, missed a couple of clear-cut opportunities in the opening minutes of the encounter.

Enyimba's Alalade could have broken the deadlock on the 22nd minute when he found himself in a one-on-one opportunity but he blasted his effort wide.

In the 38th minute, Wasiu Alhassan also wasted an effort to score for the home team before the away side were repelled on two occasions by the Eagles' defence as the first half ended in a goalless draw.

At the restart of the match, Nigeria came out on top of their game, looking like the team that wanted the win the most and began to mount pressure on their opponents.

Their reward finally came when Alalade was brought down in the 18-yard box of the Guineans and the referee spotted a penalty of which Alhassan stepped up and converted with aplomb.

Valentine Ozornwarfo almost made it 2-0 but he saw his beautiful taken free kick went inches off target as Nigeria eventually settled for the slim win.

Coach Paul Aigbogun's side will next take on Mauritania in the third and final phase of the continental qualifiers.
