Uganda have brightened their hopes of winning the 2018 CECAFA Women Challenge Cup after posting a 2-1 win over Ethiopia yesterday.
The Ugandans who pipped
Kenya in their opener last Thursday, came from behind to see off the Ethiopian ladies in a reprise of the third-place match of the 2016 championship.
Ethiopia otherwise known as the Lucy's got the opening goal of the encounter through Ware Birtukan but they were pecked back after defender Grace Aluka levelled for Uganda's Crested Cranes before the break.
The winning goal which gave the Ugandan team the maximum points, was scored by Yudaya Nakayenze who nodded home Viola Namuddu's free kick.
Elsewhere, defending champions Tanzania who are yet to make a mark at the ongoing five-nation tournament, were forced to a 1-1 draw by Kenya.
The two sides met in the final match of the 2016 event where Tanzania emerged winners, but it was a different ball game on Saturday when Mwanalina Adam 20th minute equaliser for Kenya cancelled out Donisia Daniel's opener.
Following the conclusion of match day two, Uganda sit at the helm of the log with six points, three ahead of hosts Rwanda who take to the field on Monday against Ethiopia.
While Uganda and Tanzania locks horn in the first game of the day as the FIFA-sponspored CECAFA Women Challenge Cup enters day three at the Stade de Kigali.
The women's football event is meant for countries under the Council for East and Central Africa Football Association and the matches are aired live on Azam TV (sports channel 2).
