Cameroon poster girl Gaelle Enganamouit is looking forward this year's FIFA Women's World Cup in France with huge expectation.
Cameroon are billed to make their second Women's World Cup appearance after a remarkable debut outing in Canada four years ago.
The Indomitable Lionesess made a grand entry into the women's world cup with a 6-0 drubbing of Ecuador, with Enganamouit getting a hattrick.
The 26-year-old who inspired her country to the knock-out stage of the finals in 2015, hopes the Lionesses replicate the feat and even exceed their last achievement.
"I was very proud to take part in that World Cup because it was a first [for us]. It’s what every footballer dreams of. It’s also been positive for Cameroon, for Africa in general and for me in particular," Enganamouit said on
FIFA.com.
"It was the ideal way to start our campaign as well. It gave us momentum for the subsequent fixtures.
"We were satisfied to have only lost 2-1 to Japan in the next match. Given the gulf in the world ranking between the two teams, nobody expected it. Switzerland are also well ahead of Cameroon in the hierarchy, but we managed to beat them.
"We were disappointed to be eliminated by China as we wanted to go even further, but we were still very proud to have reached the last 16 in our first appearance in the competition," recalled the former African Women Player of the Year.
The Cameroonian who recently completed a transfer from
Avaldsnes IL to Malaga, knows that it will be a different challenge in France and that the Lionesses needs to prepare 'physically and tactically' to be able to rise to the occasion.
"Teams will know what to expect and everyone will want to beat us. We’ll need to be at our very best, both physically and tactically. We want to do better, or at least as well as four years ago.
"I hope we can start preparing as soon as possible, because the pressure to get results will be there either way. If we don’t perform well, the fans will judge us without trying to understand the reasons."
Cameroon qualified for the global women's event after emerging third-place winners of last year's Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana with a 4-2 defeat of Mali.
And they have been drawn with Canada, New Zealand and the Netherlands in Group E of the mundial holding between June 7 to July 7.
