After winning a ninth Africa Women Cup of Nations last year in Ghana, Asisat Oshoala has backed Super Falcons of Nigeria to succeed in the forthcoming FIFA Women's World Cup.
Nigeria are set to make her eighth World Cup appearance in France, having participated in all of the previous editions since the competition began in 1991.
Nigeria remains the only African side to have reached the quarter-finals of the world cup in 1999 and Oshoala believes the current Falcons squad can go far in this summer's event.
And despite a rough path to winning a third successive AWCON title, the 24-year-old says the Nigerian senior women's team will not be a pushover at the mundial.
"Our goal at the start was to qualify for the World Cup but we ended up winning it in the end," Oshoala said on
FIFA official website.
"This has given us a lot of confidence going into the World Cup, ahead of our friendly games and for the team to perform better.
"I feel like that showed how much we are able to give. Just imagine the team we could have with all the right preparation."
The African champions face tough opponents hosts France, Korea Republic and Norway in Group A of the women's soccer fiesta but the Barcelona signing insists coach Thomas Dennerby's World Cup experience will count for the team.
The 59-year-old Swede guided Nigeria to a third-place finish at the inaugural WAFU Women's Cup, Nations Cup success both in 2018 and a bronze medal in the 2019 China Invitational Tournament, having led Sweden to the podium at the 2011 women's world cup.
"He has World Cup experience, he’s taken charge of plenty of big teams and tactically he knows the game at the top level – and the World Cup is the very best," the three-time African Women Player of the Year continued.
"It’s not been easy for him [Thomas Dennerby], not having us together for a while. Now he’s had the chance to take charge of us at a tournament, see what young players are ready to make the step up, I think he has enough time to get us ready."
